The HIV and Sexual Health Research Lab is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate students interested in community psychology or health-related issues to get involved in research on campus.

Most positions are volunteer and require a 5 hour weekly commitment.  Credit opportunities in PSY 490/491 are also offered. Working in the lab allows students to become aware of key issues on HIV and AIDS that they may be able to address in their own community.  Additionally, the lab offers interaction with potential graduate student mentors, events and workshops to further students' potential outside of the lab.

Data Management

Students transcribe recorded interviews  and  chunk these data into paragraphs for later analyses based on the purpose and main points of interest for a research study.

Coding

Once the interviews are paragraphed by topic, coders are able to select key phrases, words, and ideas and code the frequency of occurrence and relationship to other qualitative and quantitative data for further data analysis.

Writing

Students are given the opportunity to be involved in the data collection, analysis, and writing process. They assist graduate students in obtaining and reviewing literature.
