The Adolescent Medicine Trials Network (ATN) FOR HIV/AIDS INTERVENTIONS
The Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV/AIDS Interventions (ATN) is a cooperative agreement among clinical sites throughout the United States, an interdisciplinary team of investigators, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The ATN was established in March of 2001 to develop and implement a wide array of interventions aimed at improving the health and reducing the HIV risk of American adolescents. Its mission includes community-based primary prevention as well as clinical management of HIV-infected adolescents. Our lab participates in several studies sponsored by the ATN. The ATN is funded by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), and the National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH).
ATN Protocol 079: Contextual Influences on Success in Achieving Structural Change
This study assessed community and coalition factors associated with achieving structural changes in support of adolescent HIV risk reduction in 13 coalitions funded as part of the ATN Connect-to- Protect Protocols.
ATN Protocols 040, 041, 041B, 095, 105: Connect-to-Protect. These interrelated protocols created HIV-focused coalitions to pursue structural changes to reduce HIV infection among high-risk adolescents by improving access to HIV prevention and testing and by implementing evidence-based HIV prevention programming in their communities.
ATN Protocol 093: Evaluation of SMILE in Caring for Youth: CDC-ATN/NICHD HIV Testing and Linkage-to-Care Collaboration
This protocol focused on testing effective strategies to assist newly diagnosed HIV positive adolescents to care in a timely manner.
ATN Protocol 096: Identifying Undiagnosed Asymptomatic HIV Infection in Hispanic/Latino Adolescents and Young Adults
This protocol assessed the merits of two community strategies for identifying high-risk Latino youth who are HIV infected and who are unaware of their status.
ATN Protocol 116: Structural Enhancements to the SMILE Linkage-to-Care program
This protocol capitalized on the Connect to Protect® (C2P) coalition infrastructure to enhance the work that began in the ATN 096 protocol by asking coalitions to address structural barriers that hindered the ability of HIV-infected youth to link to and remain engaged-in-care.
C2TAP:
This demonstration project, supported with special funding from the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, assessed novel community-based strategies to offer HIV testing to high-risk youth who were unaware of their HIV status and link HIV-negative youth to information on PrEP.
